Tuoretta kalaa. Otimme annoksen kahdelle, jossa oli kolmea valkoista kalaa. Tonnikalaa sekä kuningas katkarapua. Viinit olivat myös hyviä.
We were looking for an authentic place to have a great seafood meal and we definitely found it. This was the only place that was packed despite the rain so that was promising. Made a reservation and our table was ready right when we got there. Then, the magic happened.... ordered 2 plates, one shrimp appetizer (house specialty) cooked with butter white wine and garlic, honestly phenomenal. Then we ordered the seafood dinner for two and I can say with confidence that it was the best fish/seafood meal I’ve ever had. Even the sides (potatoes and veggies were cooked perfectly). If you go to Split you must try this place!
Great service and food was excellent. It's priced fairly when compared other restaurants that serve a similar menu.
You almost have to reserve a table one or two days before. Do not expect to get a seat just by walking in.
My wife and I had an octopus salad, mussels in white wine garlic sauce, a handmade pasta with shrimp and pancetta crisp and a side order of roasted vegetables. To drink I had white wine and my wife had a beer.
Octopus salad: cooked octopus with greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, parmesan, and a sprig of pickled seaweed held inside what I think is a bowl made of parmesan cheese. The dressing was EVOO and red wine vinaigrette. This was very good and paired well with wine and beer as the cheese made it on the saltier side (but within reason). The octopus was tender and plentiful. A very good starter.
Mussel in white wine garlic sauce: I'm used to eating mussels that are barely cooked. Unfortunately, the mussels for this dish was fully cooked. I'm not sure if that the standard here and because I'm a tourist that to avoid food poisoning they fully cook thier seafood. However, the sauce was amazing which really helped the dish. Overall, this was good and would have been perfect if the mussels were just barely cooked
Homemade pasta with shrimp and pancetta crisps: homemade pappardelle with shrimp, pancetta crisps and tomatoes; in a sauce that is made with what I think is salted sardines. The pasta was cooked well and was tender but maintained its chewy bite. The shrimp and pancetta were honestly negligible because the superstar was the sauce. I think it's a mixture of garlic, herbs and spices, olive oil, butter, and salted sardines. It has this buttery and salty/briny flavor but mixed in with the pasta created a good balance of flavours.
Grilled vegetables: included carrots, leeks, zucchini, bell peppers, onions and cabbage. Seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil. Simple and good.
Overall this was an excellent dinner and would recommend anyone that visits Split to try this place. Just make sure to go get reservations.
Here are somethings to look out for people that may have some barriers to fully enjoying thier meal here:
1. A tight travelling budget - It's not overly expensive but it would be considered in the upper middle range. My total was 308 HRK.
2. Do not like seafood - They mainly serve seafood so if you are allergic or do not like it then you can either order the no seafood items or go elsewhere
3. Do not like waiting for seats - again you need to make a reservation or wait and hope someone doesn't show up to thier reservation
4. Aren't very adventurous with foods - the fish they serve is the catch of the day so it can vary in choice. Some of thier dishes may contain ingredients that aren't seen commonly elsewhere. So if you are a chicken fingers and fries person (or whatever your cultural equivalent is) you should read the menu thoroughly or ask for what's in it.
